New Beginnings?
The Ocho origins and some quick news
Oh hey there, its me Armchair! I know its been a while since you’ve seen me writing here but lots of things have changed since we last had a chat. Lets start with the big elephant in the room… I am now doing a live show every Wednesday with the host of the stoned sports podcast Dubs called “the sportsocracy: the Ocho”. Big change for me as someone who has basically been running the Armchair commentary solo for the better part of 2 years.
The reason this came about is my good friends Jeremy Greene and Tank Spencer (who i’ve worked with every Sunday during football season to bring you the best fantasy football advice we could) have a weekly show called the sportsocracy. For a long time Tank and Jeremy sort of touched on a few other sports but the real draw for them was football and football related stories. So after a quick chat I asked if they would be OK with me taking on the task of covering everything else (largely hockey and baseball but also the WWE, UFC, F1 and more) and they graciously accepted.
So what can I expect in this newsletter? what’s the goal and the plan with the written word? Well every Wednesday Dubs and I will be live doing our thing over on YouTube (don’t forget to subscribe) but I am going to try to at least twice a week put out a recap newsletter that includes stories, news and opinion from friends of the show and beyond. So if you are interested in writing let me know because id happily have a chat about stories you’d like to see in here. so now without more nonsense from me lets get to some news (don’t forget to subscribe below)
F1 News
It looks like the world of F1 will be shaken up in 2025 as Lewis Hamilton has activated a clause in his contract and has agreed to sign with Ferrari for 2025. The news certainly came as a bit of shock timing wise as Lewis had just re upped with the Silver arrows however there have been rumblings in the past about Lewis and Ferrari. How are you feeling about the move? Let us know on Facebook at the Armchair commentary!
NHL All star break Deals
The habs have moved on from Sean Monahan dealing the Center to the Winnipeg Jets for a 1st rounder in 2024 and a conditional 4th round pick in 2027. From the Canadiens side getting a 1st round pick (even a late one as the Jets pick will be) for a guy who was given to you (Calgary traded Monahan and a 1st to Montreal for future considerations) so tough to argue this is a decent return on investment. From the Jets side of things they get the second best C available before the Trade deadline and bolster a strong team for what the Jets are hoping is a long Cup run
Mbappe on the move
It looks like Mbappe is deciding to move on when his deal with PSG expires this summer and it looks like his landing spot will be Real Madrid. His desire to play for France at the 2026 World Cup is a sticking point but no doubt will be resolved soon.
That does it for me today don’t forget to subscribe to the newsletter and expect to see our weekly NHL and MLB power rankings loaded in here for debate this week.
