Drinking The Kool-Aid

Remember when I said I’d be drinking the Kool-Aid last week after the Drake Maye start? Well consider this post a figurative “bursting through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man”. DRAKE MAYE IS HIM. There’s this thing called an eye test in sports and Drake Maye passes it with flying colors. For the first time in more than a year and a half, I was excited to watch a Patriots game. Moreover, I just so happened to be front and center for the debut. Sure, you can tell me his INTs were bad, about how he fumbled, how the Texans crushed us. Fine. That’s fine. Drake Maye threw a deep ball for his first NFL tuddy (it was a dime) that traveled farther through the air than any New England pass over the last three years. With Brissett under center this year you can count on one hand the amount of times he’s even attempted to pass it farther than ten yards. For the first INT he had, I’ll chalk it up to jitters because that one was BAD. If it wasn’t his first game as a pro, it would be inexcusable. The second one was a tip drill which is exactly how we picked off CJ Stroud and, frankly, that kind of stuff is going to happen.

We were all terrified about how the line was going to hold up for the kid. Spoiler Alert: it didn’t. The good news is he avoided a ton of pressure with his legs en route to leading the team in rushing with no starting RB on the field. He became the first QB in history to lead his team in rushing and throw for 3 TD’s in his NFL debut. You could see the Josh Allen comps out on display and it looked a TON like Allen’s rookie season and we know how that ended up turning out. You could see Maye’s confidence growing by the drive and that’s one thing that killed Mac here was his confidence. It was like once Maye threw that ball to Boutte down the sideline he really settled in, and I only expect it to get better from here on out. Pop Douglas was completely unlocked with Maye out there and the bromance is fully on based on their comments in the media about one another.

While Maye showed more flashes than I even hoped for on Sunday, it was glaringly obvious he needs help and this roster is nowhere near ready to compete. The defense that was so good under Bill last year (Acknowledging we did lose Judon) has lacked an identity thus far outside of Christian Gonzalez being Fort Knox on the outside. The Patriots are starting to see the pieces they need to build around, and I can only hope this rebuild is finally starting to trend upward. At the very least I have a reason to watch these losses with the rookie out there. Thank you Jacoby Brissett for your sacrifices, but I’d like you to be a clipboard guy from here on out.

What did you think of Drake Maye’s debut?

Where does this years QB class stack up against past classes?

This cannabis startup pioneered “rapid onset” gummies

Most people prefer to smoke cannabis but that isn’t an option if you’re at work or in public.

That’s why we were so excited when we found out about Mood’s new Rapid Onset THC Gummies. They can take effect in as little as 5 minutes without the need for a lighter, lingering smells or any coughing.

Nobody will ever know you’re enjoying some THC.

We recommend you try them out because they offer a 100% money-back guarantee. And for a limited time, you can receive 20% off with code FIRST20.

Tears Of My Enemies

There are few things in this world that are sweeter than the tears of Yankees fans. With the Red Sox being the Webster definition of “middling” this year and my financial ties to the Phillies dead in the water, I don’t have much left to root for in the MLB playoffs except for reveling in the pain of my rival. Yankees fans came into game three insanely confident and they had the right to be. They led both games one & two in their entirety and Cleveland was visibly frustrated. Game three looked to be the same way until a 9th inning choke job.

Jhonkensy Noel (Future Boston Red Sox according to Stoned) came up with two out and a man on second in the bottom of the ninth. The guardians trailed 5-3 with what is essentially their season on the line (I don’t need to remind you of the only team to come back from 3-0) and BIG CHRISTMAS DELIVERED. Everything was electric. The sound off the bat, the call from commentary, the bat flip. It was a moment for sure. Right after that in the bottom of the tenth in almost the exact same situation, David Fry walked it off with another home run and a second electric call from the broadcast booth. Was this enough to kickstart Cleveland? I can’t say for certain but I’m sure as hell putting my money on the guardians after last night. Noel lit the fire and I hope the Yankees can’t extinguish it. Bring on the spin zones after the Guardians tie this thing up. Notifications are officially on for Yankees fans on Twitter.

WEEKEND WAGERS!

Well the time has finally come and F1 is back baby! With the United States Grand Prix set for this Sunday a new Danny Ric-less era and Red Bull fully on the defensive its shaping up to be a fantastic finish to the season. With that lets get you some F1 Wagers to get you through the weekend.

Verstappen Top 6, Norris Podium, Charles & Carlos both in the points, and lets get squirrely and toss in a Alex Albon in the points as well!

I don’t trust the RB to make it back to the podium fully but I expect a frisky Checo, so don’t be surprised if he touches the top 6.

NFL Wagers:

Anytime TD prop

Pop Douglas for the early games. It feels like Drake Maye has some chemistry here and he’s finally breaking out.

Ill take Saquon Barkley as well.

Tony Pollard should find the end zone this weekend.

Good luck out there and don’t forget to check us out every Wednesday at 8pm Eastern on The Great North Sports!
