Big Tourney Energy

Tourney Guys, Ippe's Fried and DK time

Tournament guy power rankings

Ranking the players that are strictly “tournament guys” may not here about them at the next level, may not PLAY at the next level but they had their one shining moment at some point over these first two rounds. Guys you can root for. Maybe they just got a cool name. These are some of the players i grew most attached to over this weekend

  1. Jack Gohlke Oakland G - this one is easy, he became the tournament sweetheart after a 10 three performance to knock off Kentucky and maybe End the Calipari era and the one and done era as a whole.

  2. DJ Burns Jr.  NC State C - big boys gotta eat. Kid is a problem for any of these teams and he’s way quicker/shiftier on the block than his stature should allow.

  3. Dain Dainja Illinois C - after more head stormed out of the gates on Thursday they were quickly introduced to the Dainja Zone in the second half and they were joined there by Dayton on Saturday. Incredible efficiency, power, and a surprising amount of post moves from the big man earned him this spot.

  4. Jermaine Couisnard - Oregon G - “TAPE ME UP COACH” nobody scored more points through two games this year than Jermaine Couisnard. The Oregon guard was automatic through  two games until he ran out of juice in double OT against Creighton.

  5. Tyon Grant Foster - GCU G/F- clearly the reason Grand Canyon got here to begin with. The kid was a bucket in the st Mary’s game and if he was able to hit a few more free throws against Alabama we may have been talking about Grant Foster as the best player on the craziest Cinderella run of the tourney. Completely composed too.

  6. Ryan Kalkbrenner Creighton C - i don’t know if anybody made a bigger defensive impact in the tournament so far than Kalkbrenner. 8 blocks and 22 boards through the tournament and he let his offensive talent shine against Oregon in that double OT thriller.

  7. Dalton Knecht Tennessee G - petition to change Connecticut to Knechticut cuz outside of the huskies that god forsaken state has 0 to offer while Dalton has everything to offer, the Tennessee guard is one of the best players in the dance this year and the first two rounds all he’s done is prove it.

  8. DaRon Holmes II Dayton F- one of the most talented post players in the tournament and was instrumental in Dayton’s 17 point second half come back against Nevada, but couldn’t replicate the magic against Arizona.

  9. John Poulakidis Yale G - he was the leading scorer for Yale in the first round and

  10. Ian Scheifflein Clemson F - classic tournament 4. Didn’t average anything crazy all year but the kid works his ass off on offense and defense and his numbers thus far have been fantastic. PJ Hall is the star for Clemson but Ian has been the one getting the timely buckets on top of the plays that don’t show up on the stat shee

Honorable mentions:

Boo Bouie G Northwestern, Achor Achor F Samford,  Trey Kaufman Renn Purdue F

Ippe Fried!

The Ohtani news of the week revolved around his former translator and likely now former friend Ippei Mizuhara who allegedly stole roughly $4.5 million from Ohtani to place various illegal bets. I have no idea if Ohtani had any idea about what was going on or if he had any involvement (or was Ohtani placing bets etc) and truly we will likely never know. Ive read a bunch of stories from reporters stating that Ohtani’s statement was firm and thus they believed him…. but Id like to remind everyone about the PED scandal. Its called Lying. People lie and when there is 700 million dollars involved I can imagine there are not many lies that couldnt be told. Now im not saying Ohtani is guilty or that he should be presumed as such but I am saying I find it hard to believe that you could spend every day with someone and not know theyve stolen $4.5 million dollars from you.

NHL DFS!

time to make a triumphant return to the NHL DFS world as its been a few weeks away. lets take a look at a loaded slate and ill give you a few stacks to focus on. First stack the Rangers vs Flyers. I love Shesterkin in Goal here and im going to toss in Zibanejad, Trocheck and Roslovic as my rangers stack. Theyll get plenty of love and Roslovic is cheap as a cheap play comes. Stack 2: Calgary vs the Blackhawks. I think Calgary is the play here so im stacking Nazem Kadri, Kuzmenko and Weager together. The hawks just arent good and Calgary is fighting to get in the dance. I also love Moritz Seider and Joel Armia as some value plays for the night.

Thats all for us today! enjoy the rest of the Madness, Opening day and more coming up!
