A State of the Union

Boston sports are in flux and Dubs breaks it all down

Alright i know it’s been a hot minute since ive written something but for the first time in my 25 years of life Boston sports are in a state of disarray. This is the first time i can remember not having a team with a legitimate chance to compete for a title at a given moment in time. Let’s start with the Celtics; Jayson Tatum had an unspeakably horrific injury in the midst of a masterclass of a performance at Madison Square Garden. Whatever demonic entity is out there trying to play basketball god and decided to detach Tatum’s Achilles needs to be sent back to the seventh layer of hell where it came from. This injury is going to have an aftershock that’s yet to be fully felt by this franchise. The future of this Celtics iteration is uncertain, and the championship window has been shoddily boarded up a la COD zombies.

KP and Jrue have probably played their final games as Celtics. Tatum is going to miss the entirety of next year (DO NOT RUSH HIM) and things look bleak for the next 365 days at the very least BUT they will be back and we have guys to tread water in the meantime. Jaylen Brown did exactly what he said he would the day he was drafted.

He went to war for this city. Playing on one knee, shouldered the burden, never complained a bit, stepped up when JT went down and continued to be nothing but professional the entire time. Jaylen Brown is a career Celtic and an absolute DAWG. Get over it.  As long as those two are here that proverbial window i talked about is wide the fuck open. Brad Stevens is going to set us up for the back half of the Jays era and there’s nobody i trust more to get it done. Jaylen D-white Pritch and Al are going to hold this thing down while Tatum recovers in the DBZ healing chamber. While i was obviously devastated in the moment and the weeks that have followed i still feel the Celtics will be back competing for a title within 2 years. I just have to avoid reading all the “what if” articles i see on my phone, keep my sights on the big picture and grit my teeth through this next season.

This is all the bruins get from me right now: FIX IT.

Draft the right guys with all these picks, start a new era and actually prove it to me. Stop living in the past. I know the new Head Coach and former Bruin Marco Sturm put emphasis on maintaining the culture established by the likes of Bergeron Chara and Marchand… that’s all well and good, i never thought the culture was the issue and i don’t want that to get misconstrued. If Marchand wins the cup with the panthers DO NOT let him parade it around Boston like Bourque did. It’s a different time and as a city we’re a different type of winner now. We don’t need belly scratches from former players. With that being said GO GET THAT CUP BRAD!

The patriots will get plenty of attention from me this year as they do every year so I’ll keep their bit here brief. A super weak schedule, a whole lot of offseason talent acquired, a TRUE leader in Mike Vrabel. All of this comes with bigger expectations. I’m realistic, we picked 4th this year in the draft… (Ford call Will Campbell for an ad deal immediately.) Do I think we’re going to the Super Bowl? Absolutely not. Do I

think we can make the playoffs and get valuable experience for a young team? Hell yeah i do. The biggest issue of the patriots the last few seasons has been direction and identity.

Week to week we never knew what we were going to get and that includes the last couple years with Bill at the Helm. We went from 20 years of dominance to 5 years of dumbassery Mac Jones was a liability, the defense never looked like those championship years, special teams errors almost constantly (WHAT?) we lacked an offensive identity hopping from coordinator to coordinator. That all ends now. Mike Vrabel IS the identity and he’s already forging this football in his own image and i couldn’t be more excited for this season to finally kick off. No Bs, no excuses we’re back to Patriots football ladies and gentlemen.

Last but not least YOUR 2025 Boston Red Sox

I obviously let sports influence my emotions far too often but that’s only because of the unbridled passion i have for the game and my teams. The Boston Red Sox are actively using that passion against me in a never ending attempt to become by 13th reason. Night in and night out they make comically bad mistakes, force me into a profanity frenzy, instill hope in dramatic fashion only to then shoot them selves in both feet and joker laugh in my face as they lose another one run game. EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. A season that started with such hope was seemingly stamped out before June. An ice cold Trevor Story, an unreliable and unpredictable Rotation, the worst fielding team in the league, injuries and more turned what i thought would be a wildcard team to a laughing stock. Flip-Flopping with the Colorado Rockies in ANY statistic in the year of our lord 2025 is punishable by death in my humble and grounded opinion. BUT THEN

The Red Sox (out of necessity due to injuries not by their own choice) called up Marcelo Meyer and finally Roman Anthony (#5 , #1 prospect in baseball respectively) and suddenly they’re starting to win some baseball games. They’ve won 3 out of their last 4 series including one in the Bronx. The offense is bailing out the pitching, the big 3 is here and my hope is coming rushing back day by day. The American League can be had, the central is weak outside Detroit, the East has underperformed outside of the Yankees who despite my bias i really don’t think are all that good. The west is a 2 horse race and that leaves the door open for a bunch of teams to get hot. The long season is a blessing and a curse because it can keep your hopes up when they shouldn’t be but it can also provide a team time to figure out their issues. All i can hope for moving forward is development from the 4 rookies we have playing everyday, and that this stretch of REAL BASEBALL from this Sox team isn’t their Peak for the season but a sneak

peak of what this team can be when it comes down to crunch time.
